The Evolution into Phil Gerbyshak 5.0: Embracing the Classroom and Beyond
Embracing Change, Impacting Lives: From Corporate to Classroom
Reflecting on my journey thus far, especially as I stepped into my fifth decade, I've come to realize that life is an intricate tapestry of experiences, each thread woven with its unique color, texture, and strength. December 2023 marked not just my 50th birthday but a significant pivot in my career trajectory—a leap into the unknown yet passionately desired realm of teaching.
25 years ago I stopped pursuing a degree in elementary education. After over two decades of navigating the corporate world and entrepreneurship, my heart yearned for something more, something deeply fulfilling. Encouraged by my wife, I embraced my lifelong dream of teaching by diving headfirst into substitute teaching. This decision wasn't just a career shift; it was the birth of Phil Gerbyshak 5.0.
Substitute Teaching: A New Classroom Every Day
My initial foray into substitute teaching has been both exhilarating and humbling. From Wall Street to Main Street, and now to the classroom, my journey has been diverse. Each day as a substitute teacher presented a new classroom, a new set of young minds to inspire, and a fresh opportunity to make an impact. I found myself navigating various grade levels, each with its unique challenges and joys.
The classroom experience reinforced my belief in the power of connection. "Every day for me right now is a new day to make a new connection with a kid," I've often found myself thinking. This philosophy of building connections, however fleeting they might seem, drives my approach to teaching. Whether it's managing a room full of first graders or engaging eighth graders in science, I strive to be a positive presence in their lives, even if just for a day.
Podcasting: A Platform for Stories and Happiness
Parallel to my teaching adventures, my passion for podcasting continues to flourish. My podcast has evolved into a platform for exploring happiness and what it means to live authentically fulfilled lives. Through conversations with thought leaders, experts, and everyday people, I delve into the nuances of happiness, success, and personal fulfillment. This journey into podcasting complements my teaching, allowing me to reach a broader audience with my message of positivity and authenticity.
Looking Ahead: Phil Gerbyshak 5.0 and Beyond
As I embrace this new chapter, my goals are clear. I'm dedicated to being the best father I can be, especially to my young son. The opportunity to coach his teams, be present for his milestones, and simply enjoy breakfast together each morning is a gift I cherish deeply. Professionally, I'm committed to making a lasting impact in the classroom and beyond. I'm exploring further education in teaching, considering a master's degree that aligns with my passion for education and community impact.
In reflecting on this latest pivot, I'm reminded of the importance of pursuing one's passions, no matter the stage of life. Phil Gerbyshak 5.0 represents not just a career change but a life choice—a choice to follow my heart, make a difference, and embrace every opportunity to connect, teach, and inspire.
The journey from corporate executive to substitute teacher and podcaster might seem unconventional to some, but it's a testament to the unpredictable, richly varied paths our lives can take. As I continue to navigate this new terrain, I remain excited for the unknown adventures ahead, the lives I'll touch, and the stories yet to be told. Phil Gerbyshak 5.0 is more than a new chapter; it's a renewed commitment to living authentically, passionately, and with purpose.
